After stomping on my current pair of climbing shoes for about 5 months now, I’m starting to get a small hole on the left shoe near the big toe. (I’m told this should “blow-out” in the next few weeks) Because of the overall wear and because the shoe stretched slightly, making it less snug than it used to be, I’m in the market for new bouldering specific shoes.

Crash course in bouldering shoes: They fit very tight and should be on the verge of uncomfortable. An asymmetrical and down-turned toe is used to center your weight/power on your big toe so you can stick to the smallest of jibs.

I’ve narrowed down my search to 4 shoes. (in no particular order)

The FiveTen – Anasazi Verde

The FiveTen – Dragon

The Evolv – Talon

And lastly, The BufoV-Machine

I would appreciate all of your expert opinions!

Help me decide in Decision 2007!

I like the 5.10’s better… but then you’d have to lace… how would you feel about that?

Are you going to get other shoes for regular wall climbing?

I don’t mind lace. You can actually get a better fit with them. (albeit slightly less convenient)
And yes these shoes would be specifically for bouldering or a wall route that calls for such a shoe. I would end up buying another pair of shoes for wall climbing. Possibly the FiveTen “Piton”?

my opinion is that climbing is way too manly for me…my soft muscles weep at the thought of ever going to a rock wall again…
